Interrogative adjectives and pronouns

InterrogativeScreen shot 2015-01-22 at 23.58.55 adjectives and pronouns or Wh-questions, can be classified into two main groups: variable and invariable.

Let’s look at the invariable ones first. You have already come across some of them: ¿qué? (what?), ¿cómo? (how?), ¿dónde? (where?), and there are still one more you will see soon: ¿cuándo? (when?). These are always going to be the same regardless of what follows in the question.

As for the variables, you already know ¿cuántos? (how many?). However, this is just one of the 4 possible forms this interrogative adjective can take. As any other normal adjective, you can adapt its ending to agree in gender and number with the name it will come with. Therefore you can use ¿cuánto?, ¿cuánta?, ¿cuántos? and ¿cuántas? depending on what you need to say next.

Keeping this in mind together with the important fact that they always carry a graphic accent will keep you in a safe place when it comes to use them in your questions.
